Probably the best-known audiophile recording of church music, the "Cantate Domino", is available for the first time as a 1-step pressing in an exclusive set, consisting of a 33-1/3 LP and a 45-piece double LP. The limited first release in the high-quality jewellery box is accompanied by a 16-page booklet and certificate.
There is hardly an audiophile classical music listener who does not own one of the various versions of this legendary recording of the concerts at the Oscarskyrhan in Stockholm. Recorded on a Revox A-77 tape machine with only two microphones, the recordings from 1976 offer the highest level of spatial information and naturalness.
It was Winston Ma who revealed the secret of the choir's size. He heard the story of the sound engineer Bertil Alving, who went back to the Oscar Church four days after the actual recording because of his dissatisfaction with it. Equipped with his recording device and loudspeakers, which he placed in the gallery, he listened to the choir again and again and fine-tuned the sound with his machines until he was satisfied with the result. When Ma counted how many singers actually made up the choir, which critics attributed to between 250 and 400 people, he came up with the astonishing number: 38, plus organist, choirmaster and soloist.
AudioNautes proudly offers this one-step limited edition version of Cantate Domino, featuring the program as a single 33 1/3 LP and as a 2LP 45 RPM recording. Recorded by Bertil Alving in 1976, Cantate Domino is famous for its incredible sound quality. The album begins with Enrico Bossi's "Cantate Domino" for choir, organ, trumpets and trombones. A wonderful piece with a stunning organ introduction. Included are also works by Handel, Otto Olsson, Adam and some Swedish folk songs. A famous reference record.
