Fine audiophile vinyl edition. Recorded in the legendary MPS studio in Villingen. Recorded on the original Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano from 1979 on which Friedrich Gulda, Oscar Peterson and many others recorded their highly acclaimed albums. The original Neumann miking from back then was used! That is why this recording sounds so incredibly dynamic and at the same time wonderfully transparent. The grand piano literally "breathes"... It sounds like the famous MPS recordings from the 70s and 80s! An absolute sound experience!
It was produced in the legendary MPS studio in Villingen (now a listed museum) owned by former SABA owner Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer - recorded on the original Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand piano from 1979, on which Friedrich Gulda, Oscar Peterson and many other stars of the 1980s recorded highly acclaimed albums. The original microphones and the identical recording situation from back then were used. This recording therefore sounds like the famous MPS productions from the 80s. One of the last productions by sound engineer Gerd Puchelt, who recorded in the MPS studio for decades. The musical style is somewhere between Keith Jarrett and classical music ...
"AUDIO+stereoplay readers know the German pianist Martin Vatter from a number of CD reviews. He recorded "Homeland" in 2018 at the legendary MPS studios in Villingen on the equally legendary Bösendorfer Imperial grand piano. Vatter has now also had a double LP made from the analogue tape that was on the market at the time, from which Horch-House and Revox distribute "First Generation Master" copies Top DMM cut: Pauler Acoustics, almost flawless pressing: My 45. And so this beautiful music - sometimes elegiac, sometimes full-bodied and pithy - once again turned out to be an audiophile highlight. The wonderful dynamics with an assertive treble are pure pleasure." - Audio-Stereoplay/sound tip
"The dozen pieces in the "New Age" style from Vatter's hand actually sound a little different from the analog original Vatter's hand actually sounds a little different, namely more natural in timbre. A good system also offers as much energy and authenticity as if the grand piano were standing in the room." - Stereo
"The great BÖSENDORFER "Imperial" in the legendary MPS studios, where this record was also recorded purely analog, unfolds its impressive sound spectrum in every nuance in the room. Involuntarily, one is tempted to close one's eyes immediately and surrender completely to Martin Vatter's "Soulful piano". And this is exactly how one should listen, then a miracle happens that we have in our own hands: Everything stressful falls away from us and we are thrown back on ourselves in a liberating way for the duration of this piano art simply supernatural." - Analog
"Conclusion: Everything is right here: passion, sound, pressing quality, music." - LP-Magazin
