Mozart's Serenade KV 525 is shrouded in mystery and popularity. Everyone knows and appreciates at least the energetic fanfare theme of the opening, but no one knows for what occasion the piece was composed and where the fifth movement, which is said to have been composed by the Salzburg master, has gone. Record critics have exercised restraint for two reasons. On the one hand, the market was flooded with recordings, and on the other hand, there was not much to report about cheap productions that oozed out of the abysses of drugstore and supermarket rummage tables.
The current recording of the audiophile Tacet label finally sheds light on the dark chapter surrounding night music. The Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra has recently earned numerous merits as a welcome guest on international stages and dedicates itself to the standard work with emotional freshness. Rajski presents an unaffected and free-flowing Mozart at brisk tempi. In this way, the balancing act between the lightness of a bubbling melody and the sophisticated compositional technique that characterises mature work is achieved. As expected, the transistor-free recording technology from Tacet ensures the adequate reproduction of an artistic top performance.
