On the occasion of Zubin Mehta's 80th birthday, Decca (Universal Music) presented this classic album with cult status in cooperation with the Vienna Philharmonic and Pro-Ject Audio Systems in 2016. A must for music Fans of the analog era, which is now released again on heavy Vinyl. In the original design of the first edition, this recording was mastered directly by the Decca analog tapes at Abbey Road Studios.
This recording is probably the best Mahler interpretations of Mehta. When the choir starts, pay special attention to the Bass voices. Spectacular! Mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig and soprano Ileana Cotrubas sing crystal clear and beguiling. The Finale under Mehta makes the recording one of the most moving pieces of music in the Decca catalogue.
This recording has everything you could wish for. Mehta's perfect tempos, the great voices of the soloists and the Vienna State Opera Choir, as well as the virtuoso playing of the Vienna Philharmonic!
