Amber Rubarth Session from the 17th Ward One-Step

The American singer-songwriter and actress Amber Rubarth was born in California. She graduated from high school at the age of 17 and moved to Carson City, Nevada to complete an apprenticeship in a wood carving studio. After three years, she broke off her apprenticeship to devote herself exclusively to music. She taught herself to play the guitar and began performing at local open mic nights and cafes. Her extraordinary talent quickly made a name for herself: The famous producer and Phil Ramone describes her style in The Huffington Post as "part of the new Old Soul generation". In addition to her solo career, Rubarth is the co-founder of the Brooklyn-based indie band The Paper Raincoat and the British harmony trio Applewood Road, which The Telegraph named one of the best albums of 2016. Their original arrangement of "Losing My Religion" for the group R.E.M. has been played over 1 million times on Spotify. "Sessions From The 17th Ward" is a prime example of Chesky Records' groundbreaking binaural 3D recording technique and the first of two albums the award-winning musician recorded for the renowned New York label.
On "Sessions From The 17th Ward", Amber Rubarth captivates the listener with her narrative lyrics and her plaintive voice. She is beautifully accompanied by cellist Dave Eggar, fiddler Tim Snider and percussionist Chuck Palmer. Rubarth presents fourteen fascinating titles, including original compositions such as "Novocaine" and "Washing Day", jazz standards such as "A Kiss To Build A Dream On") and folk-rock evergreens such as Bob Dylan's "Just Like A Woman" and Tom Waits' "Hold On"). Americana classics by the Carter Family – "Storms Are On The Ocean" – and atmospheric instrumental pieces ("Tundra") also make the album a very special jewel in Chesky's discography.
