Magnus Öström Searching For Jupiter (2 LP)

"A jazz band that bathes with skin and hair in rock," wrote the Jazz thing about "Thread Of Life", Öström's debut as leader. Also on "Searching For Jupiter" the combination of jazz with electronic and progressive rock elements as well as the unique groove of the drummer is unmistakable.

For the Romans, Jupiter was the supreme principle, the Heavenly Father, the bringer of light. He was called when the goddesses of fate suddenly intervened in life. Just like the Swedish drummer Magnus Öström, who suffered an existential stroke of fate almost five years ago – with the accidental death of his friend, the pianist Esbjörn Svensson. Since the age of nine, the two had played together almost continuously. With e.s.t., the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, they had revolutionized the jazz world from 1993 and – unique in the scene – concentrated exclusively on the work in the band formed together with bassist Dan Berglund. It took Öström two years to return to music after the tragic event and to present his first album of his own, "Thread of Life". A melancholy...
