Ella Fitzgerald's "Fine And Mellow" from 1979 is a timeless masterpiece that captures the singer's unparalleled artistry and was recorded live in a magical moment. The story behind "Fine And Mellow" begins with the "First Lady of Song" and her collaboration with a group of esteemed musicians who were at the height of jazz innovation: Tommy Flanagan (piano), Harry Edison (trumpet), Clark Terry (trumpet, flugelhorn), Zoot Sims (tenor saxophone), Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis (tenor saxophone), Joe Pass (guitar), Ray Brown (bass) and Louie Bellson (drums). Producer Norman Granz carefully and deliberately selected the musicians to perfectly complement Ella's singing style during the recordings, which took place on January 8, 1974. The session offers a rare and authentic glimpse into the improvisational art of this era, showing Ella at the peak of her vocal abilities, with each note floating in the air with an almost tangible quality. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 1980. A review in Audio Magazine called "Fine And Mellow" "Ella's best album in years".

The LP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, at industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and cut at 33 rpm, comes in a tip-on sleeve from Stoughton Printing.
