180g Vinyl LP!
Mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab from the Original Analog Master Tape!
Pressed at QRP!
"Ella And Oscar" – recorded on May 19, 1975, at the Cherokee, Los Angeles, California – is a work that can be listened to over and over again. Bassist Ray Brown, who was closely associated with both artists, can be heard on four tracks, but this is clearly a duo project that focuses on two close friends who happen to be among jazz's most important historical figures.
To call this collection of standards from the Great American Songbook intimate would be an understatement: "Ella And Oscar" is an introverted album of small, quiet pleasures. Even in the second half, in which Brown's bass playing provides additional rhythmic variety, the focus is entirely on vocals and piano. Most of the tracks on the album are less than five minutes long. Only in the final piece "April In Paris" do the musicians really expand significantly. Peterson delivers a relaxed but swinging solo, Fitzgerald follows with remarkably expressive scatting. Before that, in "When Your Lover Has Gone", she and Peterson exchange melodic, captivating ideas in four-bar solos.
As part of the "Pablo Reissue Series", Analogue Productions pays tribute to this jazz gem with a sonically excellent reissue, lovingly mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. The LP, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, at industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and cut at 33 rpm, comes in a tip-on sleeve from Stoughton Printing.
