Dizzy Gillespie wrote his classic "A Night In Tunisia" in 1942 while collaborating with Benny Carter. Thirty-four years later, the two recorded the legendary piece together – for "Carter, Gillespie, Inc.". With this album, recorded on April 27, 1976 at RCA Studios in Los Angeles, California, the two artists deliver one of their most brilliant performances. AllMusic wrote about it: "Although they came from different generations of music (Benny Carter was born ten years before Dizzy Gillespie), it's no wonder that the swing alto saxophonist and the bop trumpeter harmonized so well in this sextet session; They just fit well together." "Carter, Gillespie, Inc." also features two lesser-known pieces that are considered masterpieces in expert circles: Gillespie's "Constantinople" and Carter's "The Courtship" also achieved this status thanks to the great band consisting of Tommy Flanagan (piano), Joe Pass (guitar), Al McKibbon (bass) and Mickey Roker (drums). In this encounter, Carter, at 70, and Gillespie, at 60, were inspired to some of the best playing of what might be described as their later years if it weren't for the fact that, at this writing, both were going strong into the 1990s.
