REISSUE, expected to be available from summer 2023. Often the participation of string players in projects indicates a certain maturity of the main actor. According to the law of the series, sooner or later every rocker, jazz or folk bard will be washed by the soft wave. Chet Atkins, however, was still miles away from his artistic zenith, but hatched a lot of ideas and had the best means of production when he launched his Hollywood album in 1959. Two years earlier, 'Mister Guitar' had conquered the executive chair of the newly founded RCA studio in Nashville and had already brought some of his ideas of a broadband and catchy Nashville sound to the floor as an answer to rock'n'roll.
The Hollywood pieces do not turn out to be gaudy movie tracks or showstoppers. Rather, the delicate arrangements of Dennis Farnon pay homage to the straightforward string technique of the master. Thus, the Italo evergreen "Santa Lucia", Chaplin's unique violin "Limelight" and the venerable "Greensleeves" in a flawlessly played version pluck and stroke each other into the ear on light soles.
Atkins highly appreciated the superb string sections, brought out the tapes again two years later and chatted his Hollywood tracks back into the spotlight in this new recording.
