Taxidi, featuring guitarist Fausto Mesolella. Recorded and produced by Giulio Cesare Ricci, founder and president of the Audiophile Productions/Fone.
Italian guitarist, composer, and arranger Fausto Mesolella had been impressed and fascinated by the sound of Scott Hamilton's sax recorded in the ancient cellar of the Palazzo di Scoto di Semifonte in Certaldo Alto and from there the desire to record a new guitar disc was born. Giulio Cesare asked Fausto to bring everything he normally used for a concert - his amplification system to spread the sound and "all his "cazzabubboli," as they jokingly called them among themselves. Julius Caesar placed Fausto with his guitar at the acoustically optimal point of the cellar by matching the amplification system with the space. He positioned the legendary Neumann microphones as if he were recording acoustic, recording what we listened to live, the sound of the cellar. The result was fascinating, intimate, unique. Fausto played by expressing his art and his soul in freedom.
"A magical atmosphere ..... a journey, as he defined it. The title of the Taxidi album came out while we were at Red Ronnie, at the Roxy Bar, I translated the word into Greek and here's the title. Fausto liked it very much. The two days of recording were really a journey for us who were there to listen to him and to fix that moment, trying to affect all the deep emotions that came from his music and his guitar 'The Bloodied'. He played his Suites thinking about the durability of vinyl. ... The Suites are whole takes, played immediately, full of pathos and poetry. How many emotions, how much beauty .... Taxidi, a journey together with Fausto Mesolella." — Giulio Cesare Ricci
Giulio Cesare Ricci used the microphones of his Neumann collection. As with all foné albums, this album also has a double master: analogue for the Vinyl (AMPEX ATR 102 30ips 2 tracks 1/2inch) and digital high resolution (dCS AD/DA converters) for the SACD. No editing. All tracks on this record are heard as they were performed.
