New York Trio Tackles the Songbook of Cole Porter on 180g Vinyl!
For their fifth album on Venus Records, Bill Charlap and his New York Trio took on another songbook. This time it was Cole Porter's. Begin the Beguine is part of Charlap's songbook series. Previous entries include that of Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington.
When you mix the divine melodies and romantic nature of Cole Porter with this great piano trio that has played together for five years...well, the results are extraordinary. The album begins with the lively "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," then goes through the lovely "So in Love," and ends with the surprisingly unhurried "Begin the Beguine."
In the portfolio of the Japanese jazz label "Venus Records" recordings of the great "New York Trio" are firmly anchored. The piano is played by Bill Charlap, who is considered one of the best jazz pianists of his generation and inspires with Jay Leonhart on bass and Bill Stewart on drums in a harmonious trio. The repertoire consists of popular songs by Cole Porter.
The recordings took place on August 23 and 24, 2005 at "The Studio" in New York.
Venus LPs are pressed only once. After the first edition has been sold out, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider buying in good time.
