Tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders is joined on this double album by pianist William Henderson, bassist Charles Fambrough and drummer Sherman Ferguson. Although there are some passionate moments, this is actually one of Sander's softer sessions, and he explores songs like "Misty," "In a Sentimental Mood," "Too Young to Go Steady," "Body and Soul," "Naima," and "After the Rain" in a ballad-like style that isn't all that different from John Coltrane's in the early '60s. There are some heated moments on some of the other selections (such as "Wise One" and "Crescent") but Sanders' trademark screeches are at a minimum this time around.
Venus LPs are pressed only once. After the first edition has been sold, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider buying in good time.
