It was recorded in 2007 at St. Peter's Church in New York by an absolute jazz supergroup consisting of organist Sam Yahel, drummer Ari Hoenig, guitarist Mike Moreno and tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake. Produced by David Chesky and Sam Yahel, the quartet gave this great classic of music history a fresh coat of paint that pays tribute to the spirit of the original 1973 LP while adding a new musical dimension. When you look at the original album, it's fascinating to discover how innovative Pink Floyd's classic still is. Accordingly, it was a challenge for the quartet to do more than just justice to the music.
The interplay of the four protagonists is almost unearthly: Yahel's organ, although not the dominant voice, has an outstanding presence that sets the aesthetic tone for this work: nothing rushed, nothing forced, nothing extravagant, but always elegant, swinging, adventurous and with a lot of rhythmic vitality – a sensibility that he shares with his comrades-in-arms Mike Moreno, Ari Hoenig and Seamus Blake and that contributes much to the fact that that their interpretation of Pink Floyd's music is so captivating and does not lose any of its quality even when listened to repeatedly.
