On My Funny Valentine, jazz pianist Eddie Higgins is joined by his quartet consisting of Scott Hamilton on tenor sax, Jay Leonhart on bass, and Joe Ascione on drums.
Through his releases on Venus Records, Eddie Higgins has gained a large fan base, especially in Japan. Especially his quartet recordings with the legendary tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton, bassist Steve Gilmore and Bill Goodwin on drums enjoy great popularity - the interplay of the four protagonists is based on an incredible musical understanding, which is also impressively shown on "My Funny Valentine": relaxed, soulful and rousing at the same time!
Eddie Higgins has played and recorded with many of jazz's biggest names, including Coleman Hawkins, Jack Teagarden, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan, and Wayne Shorter. His discography as a bandleader includes more than 25 recordings. The recording sessions for "My Funny Valentine" took place on September 11 and 12, 2004 at Avatar Studios, New York.
Venus Records was founded in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who had previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The label uses a special mastering process called "Hyper Magnum Sound" for the strictly limited double LP of "My Funny Valentine", pressed on 180 grams of vinyl and cut at 45 rpm, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A small note: Venus LPs are only pressed once. If the edition is out of print, the corresponding title will be deleted from the catalogue and no longer reproduced. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to order: The releases from the "Venus Masterpiece Collection" are particularly popular!
