Ken Peplowski's tenor sax sounds are warm, attractive, and eloquent, while still rooted in the jazz tradition. His playing is so expressive that it's possible to almost hear the lyrics of each song when he plays the melody. On this release, the arrangements are varied, so the album doesn't feel monotonous. Peplowski is joined by Ted Rosenthal on piano, Gary Mazzaroppi on bass, and Jeff Brillinger on drums.
The American musician Ken Peplowski has made a big name for himself as a clarinetist and tenor saxophonist, especially in Japan, and has released three of his albums on Venus Records in recent years. He became known as a member of the Benny Goodman Orchestra and through his participation in various soundtracks to films by Woody Allen. "When You Wish Upon A Star" contains refreshingly varied new arrangements of legendary jazz standards. Peplowski will be accompanied by outstanding musicians such as Ted Rosenthal on piano, Gary Mazzaroppi on bass and Jeff Brillinger on drums.
By the way, there are two different versions of this album. One in which Ken Peplowski plays the songs on the clarinet, and this one on which he picks up the tenor saxophone – a must for collectors!
Venus LPs are pressed only once. After the first edition has been sold, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider buying in good time.
