The career of Ella Burkhardt, the German-Swedish singer from Schleswig-Holstein, began with a bang when she performed with Nils Landgren at JazzBaltica 2017. Even as a schoolgirl, she had amazed and thrilled the audience, whether at "Jugend Jazzt" or when she was on stage with her father Ingolf Burkhardt, trumpeter of the NDR Big Band. She began her musical journey on the piano at the age of six, followed by her first singing lessons at 13. The promising artist studied jazz singing in Maastricht and has already sung in a wide variety of groups, be it with a big band or alone with her guitar. In 2023, Ella Burkhardt was awarded the prestigious JazzBaltica Sponsorship Award in Timmendorfer Strand. Enthusiastic about the young singer, composer, lyricist, pianist and guitarist, Norbert Lehmann, himself a musician, as well as a sound engineer and founder of the concert series in the world-famous Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, Germany, called "Analogtage", where brilliant concerts are streamed live and recorded in parallel, invited Ella to perform with a top-class band: Together with the Swedish trombonist and singer Nils Landgren, with her father, as well as Kjell Kitzing (guitar), Christian Frentzen (piano, keyboards), Marius Goldhammer (bass) and Stephan Schuchardt (drums), she was supposed to perform live in front of an audience as part of the "Analog Days 2024".
With fascinating lightness and natural feeling, Ella Burkhardt sings simply everything: soul, folk and all this with the complex jazz background she grew up with and with a deeply felt worldview. "She lives what she loves," says Nils Landgren about Ella Burkhardt. "She follows in the footsteps of the great Ella Fitzgerald and continues to go her own way." The grandiose concert was recorded live in front of an audience in the demanding and challenging direct-to-2-track process at the legendary Bauer Studios Ludwigsburg and will now be released by Lehmann Audio in the form of a sonically outstanding 180-gram vinyl (33 rpm). Daniel Krieger (Schallplatten Schneid Technik, Frankfurt) is responsible for the half-speed mastering.
Bauer Studios is the oldest private studio in Germany. Stereo recordings have been made there since 1949, at a time when the entire broadcasting landscape in Germany was still broadcasting in mono. In recent decades, the world stars of the jazz scene have practically come and go in the Ludwigsburg-based studio. The place has an almost magical effect on musicians.
