Despite their differences in age, nationality, genre, gender and musical background, the three musicians immediately found each other. Coryell described their encounter as a "unique intersection of creativity". Coryell and Abercrombie, both pioneers of '70s electric jazz fusion, play steel-string acoustic guitars that contrast with Assad's nylon-string classical guitar. The versatile Brazilian also contributed vocals and percussion sounds, which she creates with her mouth and body.
