Alexis Cole A Kiss In The Dark One-Step

After eight albums for various labels, New York-born musician Alexis Cole finally joined Chesky Records in 2014 to record "A Kiss In The Dark". Recorded with just a single, high-resolution microphone, their Chesky debut also features Alexis Cole's great collaborators: guitarist Saul Rubin, saxophonist and clarinetist Dan Block, bassist Pat O'Leary and drummer Phil Stewart). On "A Kiss In The Dark", the band performs live and lets the singer dive deep into jazz history with her velvety voice by adding a contemporary touch to the song repertoire from the late 1910s and early 1920s. Her seductively deep voice, which encompasses these timeless melodies from the salon song era and Tin Pan Alley days, rightly evokes comparisons to vocal divas like Sarah Vaughan and Anita O'Day. Alexis Cole won third place in the Shure Montreux Jazz Competition of the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2003 and 2005. In 2007, she was the winner of the Jazzmobile Vocal Contest in New York City. She also received a "Swing Journal Gold Disk Award".

The recording is part of Chesky Records' "Binaural+ Series", which features greater realism thanks to groundbreaking recording technology, bringing listeners into the recording room.
