45rpm 2LP Ultra High Quality Record Limited to 2,750 Numbered Copies!
Mastered AAA by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analog Tapes!
Pressed on 200g Clarity Vinyl® at QRP!
For many connoisseurs the perfect rhythm section: Without Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums), "Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section" would not have been the magical album that the virtuoso of the alto saxophone created. The debut album of the label Contemporary Records from 1957 underlines the almost unbelievable synergy of the quartet: Especially with classics like "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" and "Waltz Me Blues" the four sound simply terrific! For Pepper, who is known for his emotionally charged performances, "Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section" was a milestone in his career. According to him, the album was recorded under enormous pressure, as he only learned of the possibility of using the studio on the morning of January 19, 1957, and had never met the other musicians, all of whom he greatly admired, before. His instrument was also not in particularly good condition. Nevertheless, the session produced results that Becky Byrkit (AllMusic) described as "a diamond of jazz history". Brian Morton and Richard Cook, who reviewed for the tenth edition of The Penguin Jazz Guide, described the album as "a poetic, fiery date in which all four men went above and beyond to create a masterpiece together."
Analogue Productions now pays tribute to this jazz classic with a sonically outstanding UHQR double LP, strictly limited to 2,750 copies. The original tapes were mastered by Bernie Grundman and have a sound quality that has never been heard before. The intricately designed box comes with a 16-page deluxe booklet with the history of Contemporary Records as well as new liner notes by John Koenig, the son of the label's founder, and contains the records cut at 45 rpm and pressed on 200 gram Clarity vinyl® – both in heavy old-style clamshell sleeves from Stoughton Printing with a scratch-resistant, matte finish. Each UHQR is manufactured by Acoustic Sounds at the industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP), tested after pressing and receives a hand-signed test certificate: Only the truly flawless specimens make it onto the market. The UHQR version of "Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section" is a truly luxurious collector's item that will have you rediscovering this essential masterpiece!

The Perfect Trio: Pepper, Garland, Chambers, and Jones
Imagine the magic when Art Pepper, the virtuoso of the alto saxophone, joins forces with the legendary rhythm section of Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. This 1957 Contemporary Records label debut spotlights their synergy on classics such as "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" and "Waltz Me Blues," sounding nothing short of sublime!
For Pepper, known for his emotionally charged performances, Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section marked a career milestone. According to him, the album was recorded under enormous pressure, as he first learned of the recording session the morning he was due in the studio, and he had never met the other musicians, all of whom he greatly admired. His horn was also in less than exceptional condition. Still, the session produced results that Becky Byrkit, writing for AllMusic, deemed, "a diamond of recorded jazz history." Brian Morton and Richard Cook, writing for The Penguin Jazz Guide (10th ed.), described Meets the Rhythm Section as "a poetic, burning date, with all four men playing above themselves... Between them, they'd delivered a masterpiece."
Meets the Rhythm Section also shares a storied link to the origins of Contemporary Records, founded in 1951 by Lester Koenig.
For this UHQR edition of Meets the Rhythm Section there is an included a 16-page booklet that tells the history of Contemporary Records as well as offering new liner notes from John Koenig, Lester's son, known for his insightful jazz reviews.
