The winner of the German Jazz Prize 2023, Volker Holly Schlott, has long been an institution in the German music landscape. One of the best-known projects of the busy multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer, who has worked with Chaka Khan, Udo Lindenberg and Jocelyn B. Smith, among others, is called "Favo" – a cooperation with the renowned bass clarinettist Falko Breitkreuz. When the Belgian singer Sander De Winne joins in, they are on the road under the name "Favo 3". On February 12, 2025, the trio met at Emil Berliner Studios in Studio 1 to record Favo 3's fourth album. The result is an incredibly exciting program that captures the essence of the Latin American music world like no other and in which the boundaries between popular and serious music blur in a highly virtuoso and playful way: "Todo Cambia!" – an album inspired by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Silvio Rodriguez, the Buena Vista Social Club and many other artists.
For "Todo Cambia", the BMS team around the managing directors, producers and sound engineers Rainer Maillard and Stephan Flock relies on the most consistent of all recording processes: direct-to-disc mastering. Vocals, percussion, saxophones, clarinets, flute... all of this was recorded directly on vinyl – without digital smoothing, mesh and double bottom. This is the only way to capture the pure energy and liveliness of the music that is being created in the moment.
"Todo Cambia", the new sonic highlight of Berliner Meister Schallplatten, was cut on lacquer foil under the supervision of Sidney Claire Meyer and pressed on extremely high-quality 180 gram vinyl (33 rpm) at Optimal Media.
