Venus Masterpiece Collection Limited Edition 180g Vinyl Double LP!
"Après Un Rêve" by Gabriel Fauré and the other compositions from the album of the same name have definitely not been heard before: Sir Roland Hanna, together with Ron Carter (bass) and Grady Tate (drums), brings this classic back to life and at the same time creates his legacy: "Après Un Rêve" is the last recording of the late pianist, whose piano playing – from the Schubert Serenade to the Mahler Adagietto – is hard to beat in terms of beauty. Roland Hanna learned classical piano from the age of 11, but it was his friend, the pianist Tommy Flanagan, who introduced him to jazz. After a brief period of military service, he attended music school and then began his career, working with several big names such as Benny Goodman and Charles Mingus in the 1950s. In 1972 he toured the Soviet Union with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. "Après Un Rêve" was recorded on September 22, 2002 at Avatar Studio in New York and produced by Todd Barkan and legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara. The latter is also responsible for the mixing and mastering of the album.
It's been done before...but never like this. Sir Roland Hanna Trio brings the classic tune Gabriel Faure's "Apres Un Reve" to life in their album of the same name, recorded in 2002.
Roland Hanna studied classical piano from the age of 11, but it was his buddy, pianist Tommy Flanagan, that later introduced him to jazz in early adulthood. After a brief stint in the military, he went on to music school and then began his career, working with several big names in the 1950s, including Benny Goodman and Charles Mingus. He toured the Soviet Union with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1972.
With more than 2,000 albums to his credit, bassist Ron Carter has recorded with many of music's greats including Lena Horne and B.B. King. In the '60s, he performed throughout the United States in concert halls and nightclubs with Jaki Byard and Eric Dolphy.
Grady Tate has pulled double-duty as a jazz performer. After making a name for himself as a successful jazz drummer (appearing with the likes of Quincy Jones and Aretha Franklin) he, in recent years, has stepped front and center as a jazz vocalist.
Enjoy the trio as a whole as they bring selections like "Serenade" and "Going Home" to jazz lovers everywhere in Apres Un Reve.
Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who had previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The renowned label uses a special mastering process called "Hyper Magnum Sound" for the strictly limited double LP of "Après Un Rêve", cut at 33 rpm and pressed on 180 gram vinyl, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A little hint: Venus LP reissues are only pressed once. If this is out of print, the corresponding title will be deleted from the catalogue and no longer reproduced. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to order: The releases from the "Venus Masterpiece Collection" are particularly popular!
Venus LPs are pressed only once. After the first edition has been sold, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider buying in good time.
