Eddie Higgins' delicate tone and conception were often compared to those of Bill Evans, one of the most influential and successful jazz pianists. He mostly played bop and mainstream jazz music throughout his career. Higgins was at home playing melodies with groove and swing-like feeling without being too superfluous.
With John Doughten on tenor sax, Phil Flannigan on bass and Danny Burger on drums, the Eddie Higgins Quartet performs favorite jazz standards and originals on this consistently swinging set. Eddie Higgins has played and recorded with many of jazz's biggest names, including Coleman Hawkins, Jack Teagarden, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan, and Wayne Shorter. His discography as a bandleader includes more than 25 recordings. "When Your Lover Has Gone" was recorded on February 3 and 4, 1994 at New River Studios (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) and produced, mixed and mastered by legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara.
Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who had previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The renowned label uses a special mastering process called "Hyper Magnum Sound" for the strictly limited double LP of "When Your Lover Has Gone", cut at 33 rpm and pressed on 180 gram vinyl, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A little hint: Venus LP reissues are only pressed once. If this is out of print, the corresponding title will be deleted from the catalogue and no longer reproduced. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to order: The releases from the "Venus Masterpiece Collection" are particularly popular!
