"On one evening, some musicians played two sets in front of a small but enthusiastic audience at the Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg. The first set of this evening can be heard on this album. The young singer and guitarist Ella Burkhardt teamed up with the also young guitarist and singer Kjell Kitzing and the singer Ingolf Burkhardt, who also happens to be Ella's father - a family project! They fearlessly stepped in front of the audience, knowing that everything would be recorded and unchanged. A unique and exciting way of recording that few artists dare, but these three brave ones dared - and how they mastered it! Whether Ella and her fellow musicians interpret Joni Mitchell's "A Case Of You", Bill Evans' "Monica's Waltz" (with Swedish lyrics by Beppe Wolgers for the legendary singer Monica Zetterlund), Ella's own song "Plastic Church", where she sings and plays the guitar, Gordon Lightfoot's "In The Early Morning Rain" or "You Are Here", written by Ella and Ingolf – they do it with style. Her vocals are as flawless as her guitar playing, and this album impressively shows the potential of Ella together with Kjell and Ingolf. Ella - you are the music, and the music is you.“ (Nils Landgren)
The career of Ella Burkhardt, the German-Swedish singer from Schleswig-Holstein, began with a bang when she performed with Nils Landgren at JazzBaltica 2017. Already as a student she had amazed and thrilled the audience, be it at "Jugend Jazzt" or when she was on stage with her father Ingolf Burkhardt, trumpeter of the NDR Bigband. She began her musical journey on the piano at the age of six, followed by her first singing lessons at the age of 13. The promising artist studied jazz singing in Maastricht and has already sung in various groups, be it with a big band or alone with her guitar. In 2023, Ella Burkhardt was awarded the prestigious promotion prize of JazzBaltica in Timmendorfer Strand.
As part of the "Analogtage 2024", Norbert Lehmann, himself a musician, as well as a sound engineer and founder of the concert series at the world-famous Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, Germany, called "Analogtage", where brilliant concerts are streamed live and recorded in parallel, invited Ella to perform with a top-class band. The grandiose first concert of the evening in a small ensemble was recorded live in front of an audience in the legendary Bauer Studios Ludwigsburg in a demanding and challenging direct-to-2-track process for the musicians and will now be released by Lehmann Audio in the form of a tonally outstanding 180 gram vinyl (45 rpm). Daniel Krieger (Schallplatten Schneid Technik, Frankfurt) is responsible for the half-speed mastering.
Bauer Studios is the oldest private studio in Germany. Stereo recordings have been made there since 1949, at a time when the entire broadcasting landscape in Germany was still broadcasting in mono. In recent decades, the world stars of the jazz scene have practically put their hands on the hook in the Ludwigsburg-based studio. The place has an almost magical effect on musicians.
