Jon Hendricks is considered the forefather of the vocalise style of jazz, in which a singing voice takes over the part of an instrument. This recording from 1961 went unnoticed by the critics for a long time and only found fans in the later years. Jazz compositions and bluesy themes form the basic framework for an audiophile and musically successful album with “a voice like a tenor saxophone”. Allegedly the best voice in America since Johnny Mercer and anyone who accompanied Art Tatum in the clubs of San Francisco at the age of 13 must be able to sing.

Eight of the songs on this album were penned by Jon Hendricks. The remastering for the double 45rpm edition comes from Bernie Grundman and the album appears in an extra heavy gatefold cover with a consecutive serial number. Limited to 2,500 copies worldwide.
