"Bad", the seventh studio album by American musician Michael Jackson, was released in August 1987 by Epic Records and is Jackson's third and last album, which was produced by Quincy Jones. With a gap of five years, the successor to "Thriller" appeared exceptionally late – its release was postponed several times. "Bad" reached the top of the album charts in over 20 countries, has sold over 35 million copies to date and has gone platinum a total of 11 times! In the United States, seven of the album's eleven songs were released as singles, and in the United Kingdom and Germany, nine of them were even released as singles.
In 1984, a few months after the "Victory" tour with his brothers, Jackson began recording various demos, which occupied him until the end of 1985. The development of the album began in November 1986 and the recordings took place between January 5, 1987 and July 9, 1987 at the Westlake Audio Studios, where a special stage was built of wood, which allowed him to dance during the recordings. Jackson wrote about sixty songs for his new album. He recorded about thirty of them, all of which he originally planned to release on a triple CD set. However, Quincy Jones spoke out in favor of cutting "Bad" to a 10-track LP. When the album was released, an additional eleventh track, "Leave Me Alone", was released exclusively on the CD version, which was later also released as a single and is also included on this vinyl reissue by MFSL. The title song "Bad" was originally planned as a duet with Prince, which he rejected, because he believed that the song would be a hit even without him. Other artists to be featured on the album were Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand. But there was no cooperation with them either. However, with "Dirty Diana" Jackson again recorded a successful rock song, where Steve Stevens recorded the guitar solo. Siedah Garrett ("I Just Can't Stop Loving You") and Stevie Wonder ("Just Good Friends") contributed vocals.
The numbered double LP by Mobile Fidelity, strictly limited to 6,000 copies, was remastered especially for this edition in the MOFI studio in California and pressed on 180 gram vinyl (45 rpm) using the tonally superior UltraDisc one-step process with Fidelity Record Pressing. The luxurious slipcase comes with the true-to-the-original graphics as well as the iconic cover artwork. Inside are the two vinyl records - in foil-embossed cases and original MFSL Master Sleeves. The MOFI UltraDisc one-step version of "Bad" is characterized by an extensive sound stage and pinpoint detail reproduction as well as a pitch-black background and the full dynamic range over the entire frequency spectrum.
