Marianne Faithfull Strange Weather (2 LP)

With Strange Weather , Marianne Faithfull presented her new studio album in 1987 after 16 years of heroin addiction. The originally feather-light voice of the muse Mick Jaggers had turned into an alto lowered by a good octave and you could almost hear the nicotine creeping into the microphone. The album exudes a touching mixture of campfire romance and Weltschmerz, which Faithfull would never have succeeded in doing in the 60s and especially As Tears Go By has an autobiographical charm.

The album offers a dark mixture of standards and pop numbers that you would otherwise only have heard from Marlene Dietrich. The combination of the gloomy and at the same time warmly carried voice and the soulful instrumentation with strings and brass sections results in a unique mixture that calls for dark rooms and large amounts of high-proof alcohol.

The original Recordings ReIssue appears as a 180g double LP at 45rpm and was re-cut from the analogue master tapes by Bernie Grundman. The album appears in a gatefold cover with printed texts as a limited edition with a total print run of 2,500 copies worldwide. Excellent sound and a brilliant bass.
