180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl! Pressed at Pallas in Germany!
Winner of three Grammies in 1970, this absolutely mind-blowing album peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. charts, staying there for seven weeks, going double platinum by the end of 1969 and stayed on the Top 40 for 66 weeks. It's actually in 13th place for best-selling albums of all time in the U.S. with about three million copies sold. Arguably, the Blood Sweat & Tears that made this self-titled second album – consisting of five of the eight original members and four newcomers, including singer David Clayton-Thomas – was really a different group from the one that made Child Is Father to the Man, which was done largely under the direction of singer/songwriter/keyboard player Al Kooper. They had certain similarities to the original: the musical mixture of classical, jazz and rock elements was still apparent, and the interplay between the horns and the keyboards was still occurring, even if those instruments were being played by different people.
This album is a classic and won three Grammys in 1970, reached No. 1 on the US charts, stayed there for seven weeks, went double platinum at the end of 1969 and stayed in the Top 66 for 40 weeks. With around 3 million copies sold, it is the 13th best-selling album of all time in the United States.
The band Blood, Sweat & Tears, which recorded this self-titled second album, consisted of five of the eight original members and four new additions, including singer David Clayton-Thomas, and thus differed significantly from the band composition for "Child Is Father to the Man", which was largely created under the direction of singer/songwriter/keyboardist/arranger Al Kooper.
Musically, the mixture of classical, jazz and rock elements resembles the debut and the interplay between the horns and the keyboards was still present. However, "Blood, Sweat & Tears" under producer James William Guercio was less adventurous and, with Clayton-Thomas at the helm, also far more commercially oriented. And with success!
