Fans and critics suspect that two factors are responsible for the bitter, regretful and at the same time peaceful tone of the 1975 album "Blood On The Tracks". After the years spoiled by success, Dylan's musical development stagnated in the early 70s and he found himself in a creative stalemate. In the same phase fell the crisis of his marriage, which culminated in the divorce from his wife Sara. Dylan himself denied a connection, but whatever the reason, melancholy, frustration, ups and downs, sadness and the feeling of rejection are the emotions that are conveyed to the listener. Looking back, Dylan considered "Blood On The Tracks" a turning point in his career, for many fans it is his best album.
The acoustic solo numbers as well as the songs with the band, consisting of Tony Brown on bass, Buddy Cage on guitar and Paul Griffin on organ, can now be heard with the greatest possible dynamics, presence and clarity in the mastering of Krieg Wunderlich. This LP is part of a series of Dylan re-releases on the MFSL label.
Blood On The Tracks, released in 1975, is quite simply one of Bob Dylan's greatest releases and stacks right up there with Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde for Dylan aficionados. Blood On The Tracks documents Dylan's own disintegrating relationships with a high degree of personal honesty which is almost painful to listen to at times. The whole album almost recalls the misery of Leonard Cohen at his prime, especially on tracks like the harrowing "If You See Her Say Hello" - surely one of the saddest songs in rock music history. However, having said all that, the album has a strong sense of survivability and is even quite optimistic in terms of Dylan eventually getting over his traumas and moving on in life. In short, this is easily one of Dylan's most personal albums and it's popularity since it's release has underscored it's appeal ever since. Few albums can match it's brooding introspective mood. Brilliant.
"The writhing is the source of the record's power... There are times when Dylan sounds closer, more intimate and more real than anyone else." - Jon Landau, Rolling Stone
