In 1989, Billy Sheehan, one of the best bassists in hard rock, and Paul Gilbert, guitarist of Racer X, teamed up to form a new band in Los Angeles: Mr. Big! Through his work with Steve Vai and David Lee Roth (Van Halen), Sheehan knew how he wanted to align his new project musically. However, he still lacked the right band members, which he finally found in singer Eric Martin and Pat Torpey (drums). The rest is history: The four signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and immediately went into the studio. In the same year, the debut album "Mr. Big" was released, which immediately reached number 46 on the Billboard 200 and was able to hold its own in the Billboard charts for 18 weeks. In the UK, the group's debut album even reached number 60 in the album charts.
When listing bands that stand for the powerful, melodic rock of the early nineties, Mr. Big is always at the forefront. Today, ballads like "Wild World" and "To Be With You" are absolute genre classics. The self-titled debut album also proves that they can take a harder pace and really know how to play their instruments with virtuosity: The opener "Addicted To That Rush" comes along with full force and technical skill! When it comes to melodic rock, there's no getting around Mr. Big!
Eric Martin's rough yet fine voice comes into its own in the multi-layered ballads "Had enough" and "Big Love", while Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan show the guitarist the world where to go. In their genre, Mr. Big's musicians are almost unrivaled in terms of mastery of their instruments; It's a pity that many people just put them in the ballad drawer. Let yourself be convinced by the rest! The 180g LP comes to you in vinyl.
