Pressed at QRP!
Atlantic 75 Historic Reissue Series from Analogue Productions!
After becoming famous with the Hollies and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the emigrant Englishman and West Coast rock icon Graham Nash made his promising solo debut in 1971 with "Songs For Beginners". The album is an exemplary singer-songwriter work that strikes an important balance between graceful introspection and political passion. And while it's very personal, it still carries the harmonies, heart, and messages that made CSN(Y) so unique. "Songs For Beginners" reached high chart positions worldwide immediately after its release and was awarded gold.
With the support of David Crosby, Jerry Garcia (The Greatful Dead) and Dave Mason (Traffic), the sensitive self-reflections "I Used To Be A King" and "Man In The Mirror" as well as the passionate protest anthems "Chicago" and "Military Madness" are among the most famous songs on the album. If CSNY's "Déjà Vu" was a wild canyon party with four competing egos, then "Songs For Beginners" is Nash's introspective morning after—a mix of heartbreak, hope, and rebellion. Nash recorded the album while still suffering from the breakup with Joni Mitchell, and that melancholy can be felt in every note. But "Songs For Beginners" doesn't wallow in the pain of separation: it's also a call to action, packed with the folk-rock anthems that made Nash an indispensable voice of his time.
In the course of the "Atlantic 75 Series", Analogue Productions pays tribute to this masterful album with a sonically outstanding reissue, lovingly mastered by Bernie Grundman: The double LP, on 180-gram vinyl, pressed by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and cut at 45 rpm, comes in a luxurious old-style tip-on flip sleeve from Stoughton Printing.
