After first serving in the army and then working as a toilet fixer in Boeing airplanes, Bill Withers demos were noticed by Sussex Records in 1970. His debut album immediately yielded two classics: 'Ain't No Sunshine’ and ‘Grandma's Hand’and on his second album was’ Lean on Me‘, a song inspired by the music he heard in his youth in the Baptist Church. After a legal battle with Sussex, he switched to Columbia Records in 1975 where he got his biggest hits with ‘Lovely Day’. Everywhere he performed, this sympathetic soul singer and composer captured the hearts of the audience, but in 1985 his last album was released, after which he quit because of his frustration with the music industry. Fortunately his most beautiful songs are on this 180 gram LP.
