Forrest Gump was the surprise hit of the 1994 summer movie season. The film traces the life of a guy who appears to be missing some marbles through the major historical events of the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. It features Tom Hanks as the loveable Forrest Gump and Robin Wright (Claire Underwood in House Of Cards) as Forrest's insecure girlfriend Jenny. Forrest Gump won six Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
The movie received widespread critical acclaim, was a major success at the box office, and received numerous awards. In total, Forrest Gump won six Oscars, three Golden Globe Awards, and two Saturn Awards. In December 2011, the movie was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress' National Film Registry, as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Its Original Motion Picture Score is composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri, which was nominated for Best Original Score. Silvestri has been a long-time collaborator with Zemeckis and has composed music for nearly all of his feature films including the Back to the Future film series, Cast Away, and The Polar Express.
The film also won three Golden Globe Awards, two Saturn Awards and Outstanding Achievement in Special Effects award at the 1995 BAFTA Film Awards. The quote "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." ranked 40th on 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes, and the film even spawned a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company chain of restaurants.
The score was composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri and was nominated for Best Original Score in the 67th Academy Awards. The legendary score of Forrest Gump is available on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
