Various Artists Jazz Kaleidoscope HDCD

The label Reference Recordings presents the two jazz samplers in its history. The compilation from 2010 contains twelve very different faces of jazz with equally different phases of its musical development. For all these recordings, Keith Johnson sat at the controls and brought his mostly self-constructed recording equipment with him. Early recordings were made on a three-channel tape and the most modern with 24-bit digital technology.
The repertoire of this sampler comes from the Reference Recordings catalogue and the individual recordings are also available as a whole album. Especially the great tonal variations of Dick Hyman, who is a true chameleon of music, are expressed here. The recordings are encoded in HDCD.

Jazz covers a lot of musical territory, and many of its varied styles are represented here. Stride piano from the 1920s rubs shoulders with swing from the 1940s, classic combo sounds from the 1950s, salsa-flavored dance music, and recently-created pieces that stretch the very boundaries of jazz.
