The Dallas Wind Symphony is the largest civilian wind orchestra in the U.S., based in Dallas with the spectacular Meyerson Concert Center as its home base. Building on the tradition of a British wind orchestra, the more than 50 band members have now developed their own musical style and this sampler provides an insight into this spectacular sound, which is rather unusual for European concertgoers.
The sampler is organized according to collaboration with the three principal conductors of the Dallas Wind Symphony. For each individual track, the corresponding Reference Recordings CD is also presented in the booklet.
A cornucopia of prime tracks from the Dallas Wind Symphony discography: music by Holst, Albeniz, Gould, Sousa, Grainger, Maslanka, Arnold and many more.
At last, a collection of the very best tracks from all Reference Recordings' releases with the Dallas Wind Symphony, America's only full-time professional wind band! All wind music enthusiasts need to have these knockout performances, conducted by Howard Dunn, Frederick Fennell, and Jerry Junkin. Recorded in the acclaimed acoustics of the Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas TX, the great music and spectacular sonics are perfectly captured by Reference Recordings' world-renowned team of engineer Keith Johnson and producer Tam Henderson. A stupendous bargain at a sampler price!
"The Dallas Wind Symphony is one of America's elite cultural institutions, up there with the Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the Philadelphia Orchestra." - Gene Gaudette.com
