Since the mid-eighties, the American singer, guitarist and songwriter Doug MacLeod has been gifting the blues world with outstanding albums. His warm, soulful voice, virtuoso guitar playing and excellent storytelling have not only earned him a loyal fan base worldwide, but also several Blues Music Awards. For "Between Somewhere And Goodbye", his sixth album for Reference Recordings, the artist, who is also extremely popular in audiophile circles, teamed up with producer Andreas Werne and sound engineer Joe Funderburk at the Creative Workshop Studio in Nashville as well as mastering engineer Sean Royce Martin from Reference Recordings. On his latest release, MacLeod presents eleven exciting compositions, which he performs both solo and with well-known musicians from Nashville. Blues Music Magazine writes about "Between Somewhere And Goodbye": "Like all great blues musicians, MacLeod lives his music, and the songs are not just on his fingertips and tongue, they are one with his being."
"This album is a little different from my other albums," says Doug MacLeod. "Oh, there's blues, humor and even a touch of soul here. And... there's a theme that runs through a lot of the songs." Together with the "Funky Chester Rhythm Section" – consisting of drummer Lynn Williams, Mark T. Jordan (piano, Wurlitzer electric piano, Hammond B3), bassist Paul Ossola and the Shoals Sisters (vocals) – who have worked with musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, Levon Helm, Delbert McClinton, Lyle Lovett, Van Morrison, Buddy Guy and the Saturday Night Live Band, MacLeod paints a fascinating portrait of his new adopted home with his Waterloo WLS Deluxe and vintage Gibson. Because since his move to Memphis, Tennessee, the mighty Mississippi has had a great influence on his life and songwriting. By the way, the Cver features a painting of the iconic Hernando de Soto Bridge, created by artist Matthew Hasty especially for this album.
Doug used two guitars on this record: his Waterloo WL S Deluxe called 'P Nut,' and 'Little Bit,' his vintage Gibson C100 FE. The cover features a painting of the iconic Hernando de Soto Bridge, created for this album by artist Matthew Hasty. Since moving to Memphis, Tennessee in 2019, the mighty Mississippi River has influenced and informed much of Doug's life and songwriting. The album booklet also includes Doug's own personal and informative liner notes explaining, "This album is a little different from my other albums. Oh, there's blues here, humor here, and even a touch of soul here. And…… there's a theme running through many of the songs here."
