Single-Layer Stereo Japanese Import SHM-SACD!
This Single-Layer SHM-SACD can only be played on a Super Audio CD Player!
A real milestone: "East Broadway Run Down" by Sonny Rollins, was recorded on May 9, 1966 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and released in January 1967 by Impulse! Published. The album, produced by Bob Thiele, represents one of Rollins' most remarkable experiments with free jazz, according to The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, and illustrates "the maximum extent in which he incorporated noise elements into his playing." Many critics described "East Broadway Run Down" as one of the greatest jewels of the American tenor saxophonist from the 60s, which is certainly also thanks to the great cast: Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums). "East Broadway Run Down" became Rollins' last album before industry pressures caused him to take a six-year break. Although the piano chair is unoccupied, the album sparkles with energy from the first to the last minute. It is said that Garrison and Jones have been used to playing together since the days of John Coltrane. Sometimes you suspect that Elvin Jones has four hands and four feet, while Jimmy Garrison treats his double bass like a big guitar. From the very beginning, the driving rhythm challenges Rollins' tenor saxophone – a challenge he accepts and wins!
In celebration of Verve Records' 70th anniversary, Universal Music Japan is releasing a new series showcasing the renowned label's legendary catalog in impressively mastered, high-resolution sound quality. The limited Japan-SHM-SACD (Single-Layer) comes in a mini-LP cardboard sleeve with OBI-Stripe and makes "East Broadway Run Down" by Sonny Rollins an absolutely collectible disc!
This title is an SHM-SACD. This format is a further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (Super High Material). It achieves a much better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM SACDs are generally re-digitized from the albums' master tapes to DSD without any changes. SHM SACDs can be played on any SACD player. Please do not use L'Art du Son or alcohol-based cleaning products. – Attention: All tracks are designed by Universal Music as collector's items in limited edition for the Japanese market.
