Opus 3 has made 3 albums with Tomas Örnberg´s BLUE FIVE and 3 with The Swedish Jazz Kings. Both bands are based upon the partnership with Bent Persson and Tomas Örnberg.
What they have done through the years could be considered a tribute to the Chicago Jazz era and, in many ways, a recreation of the music of Clarence Williams. Both Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet are, of course, also among the important musicians who have inspired this band.
No other band has so consistently made the Classic Jazz from this time - 1920 to 1930 - so alive and really revived it in such an authentic and positive way! The selection of tracks taken from those 6 albums, has great variation and really shows the broad spectrum of the musical choice of this band!
The history of Opus 3 is inextricably linked to the rise of Swedish clarinetist and saxophonist Tomas Örnberg. Today, Örnberg is considered one of the world's most talented and experienced musicians in the field of traditional jazz. Whether as a leader or sideman – Örnberg has not only preserved the genre, but has also been able to set new impulses in a unique way. In the course of his unparalleled career, he has accompanied almost all living legends or had them participate as guests in his own projects. As a leader, he relied on the production know-how of Jan-Eric Persson from the very beginning, with whom he still has a close friendship today. The fruits of this collaboration, which has now lasted several decades, have been reflected in a large number of albums with the Blue Five as well as with The Swedish Jazz Kings. Some of these albums have been out of print for many years, so Jan-Eric Persson asked Örnberg to compile his personal highlights from the Opus 3 collection. On "A Selection From Tomas Örnberg's Blue Five & The Swedish Jazz Kings" Tomas Örnberg's companions are of course represented: Kenny Davern, Roy Williams and Bob Barnard, who, together with Bent Persson, Örnberg's only continuous band member and congenial partner, pay tribute to the Chicago jazz era of the 20s and 30s of the last century.
The sonically outstanding multichannel hybrid SACD from Opus 3 Records contains a booklet with detailed information on the recording technique and miking used, as well as liner notes by Tomas Örnberg about his band projects and collaboration with Jan-Eric Persson.
