Debut Album On SACD!
Bibb's 1977 debut album contains 9 tracks including "Candy Man", "Lonesome Child Blues" and "Going Home".
When Eric Bibb recorded his first album in Sweden, no one could have guessed what a terrific artist Jan-Eric Persson had discovered. In fact, Bibb's debut album "Rainbow People" is an impressive testimony to the musical abilities of the then 26-year-old and pioneer of the "species of world music" - long before the term for this musical genre was even introduced. On the other hand, this album also stands for the incredible sound quality that the then still quite young label Opus 3 Records, which knew how to implement its visions with reduced, but technically high-quality means and a concept that remains clear to this day. So it is hardly surprising that "Rainbow People" became one of the most successful titles of the early label discography. After tough negotiations with the current management of Eric Bibb, the completely remastered and edited release in Opus 3's own mastering studio is now available as SACD. The result is once again overwhelming: liveliness, imaging, sound fidelity and the incomparable naturalness are simply striking and are indisputably among the best that music enthusiasts and audiophiles can hear in this world.
"This is something for the sound aesthete: Eric Bibb's debut on Opus 3, recorded in early June 1977. And almost 23 years later, it was reissued. To this day, the bluesman Eric Bibb releases on Opus 3, and the collaboration with Jan-Eric Persson seems to give both of them a lot of pleasure to this day. It was already extraordinarily direct and authentic in 1977 what the tube stereo microphone AKG C-24 captured; the nine tracks sound incredibly intimate, natural and pleasant. At this point, the work of small special labels like Opus 3 must be praised extraordinarily; without their efforts, this kind of recording would probably no longer exist today." - Holger Barske, LP 3/2010.
"For all of you have been following my music, 'Rainbow People' will give you an idea of how far I've come on my musical journey. For me, musical ideas are like children; for those of you who are hearing me for the first time, you might want to have a listen to some of my recent work to hear how the children of the Rainbow People have grown." - Eric Bibb
