Greatest Hits is a compilation album by The Bangles. It was released by their record company, Columbia Records on May 8, 1990 to fulfil the band's contractual requirements. By the time of the release of the album, the group had already broken up. The album peaked at #97 in the Billboard Album chart, and at #4 in the UK.
The Greatest Hits album features the single remixes of "Hero Takes a Fall", "Walking Down Your Street" and "I'll Set You Free". It also included the group's cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter", which was released on the soundtrack of the film Less Than Zero, and had not been included on a Bangles album. It also contains the non-album B-side cover of the Grass Roots' "Where Were You When I Needed You" and the previously unreleased song "Everything I Wanted" from the Everything album sessions. "Everything I Wanted" was released as a single around Europe and Australia to promote the release. In the UK, a new remix of "Walk Like An Egyptian" was released instead, peaking at #73.
Founded in 1981 by siblings Debbi and Vicki Peterson and mutual friend Susanna Hoffs, The Bangles were one of the most successful girl bands of the 80s. After taking their first steps in the paisley underground style, the three women, supplemented by bassist Michael Steele, landed their first big hit with Different Light. Manic Monday, written by Prince, contributed significantly to this success, but The Bangles also landed high chart positions with self-composed songs such as Walk Like An Egyptian. The greatest hits album contains 14 of the best tracks in new mastering.
This CD is part of a series of Sony Music K2 HD productions, which were produced at the instigation of the national company in Hong Kong. Sony Music in Hong Kong takes First Impression Music as a model, who succeed in selling their recordings at high prices in Hong Kong, which is notoriously infected by product piracy. That's why Hakamata Takeshi, who is also responsible for FIM productions as a mastering engineer, has had some enormously popular productions reworked by the JVC FLAIR Studio in Tokyo. The K2 HDs are made in Japan and come in a beautifully designed hardcover booklet in a protective slipcase with the K2HD logo. As with FIM, the CDs themselves are also protected in a fleece sleeve.
Attention: These CDs are actually remastered (K2 HD Mastering) and should not be confused with CDs available in Japan that have only been transcoded (K2 HD Coding).
