The Lost Recordings releases the complete legendary concert recorded on October 11, 1960 at the Olympia by Miles Davis and his quartet, together with saxophonist Sonny Stitt: "Miles Davis Quintet – The Complete Live In Paris Vol. I & II". On that October evening at the Olympia, the celebrated Davis had returned without Coltrane. Only a few months earlier, he had given a turbulent concert with Coltrane, which marked the end of their collaboration. The saxophonist who was now in the band was a much better fit for Davis' vision: the extraordinary Sonny Stitt, the "lone wolf". Together with Jamaican pianist Wynton Kelly, whom Davis had hired in 1959, double bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb, they formed a cohesive group full of musicality that offered an ideal blend of restrained strength and discreet intelligence. At the Olympia, Davis rediscovered a stage he loved, in a city he had fallen in love with in 1949. "I loved being in Paris, I loved the way I was treated there," he would later say.
The search for the full concert began in 2022 when a friend of the label sent a photo of magnetic tapes in Brittany. A label that read "Miles Davis – 1960 Olympics" immediately caught TLR's attention. After two years of research in France, the United States and Stockholm, The Lost Recordings is proud to present the full version of this legendary concert for the first time. The lavishly restored recording comes as a UHQ double CD produced by Simon Garcia, Marciac, France – with a 24-page booklet. The famous Kevin Gray is responsible for the lacquer cuts of the vinyl version.
"The Lost Recordings" is celebrated worldwide for the preservation of priceless musical heritage and the unsurpassed quality of its Phoenix mastering™ restorations. The UHQCD version of "Miles Davis Quintet – The Complete Live In Paris Vol. I & II" is also nothing more than an audiophile revelation.
UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. UHQCDs, unlike conventional CDs, are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. To protect the softer photopolymer from scratching, another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied. The combination results in a significantly reduced reflection of the laser light inside the CD and an unrivalled precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with normal CD players. Musically, the result is a sound that is strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
