TAS Rated 4/5 Music, 4/5 Sonics in the April 2013 Issue of The Absolute Sound!
Audiophile XRCD24 Mastered from the Original Analogue EMI Master Tapes!
Can Be Enjoyed On Any CD Player!
This classic recording from the golden era of André Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra has been newly remastered from the original EMI master tapes.
This recording dates from 5 and 6 May 1972 and dates from the early days of André Previn as chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. It was recorded at London's Kingsway Hall and used the stereo mix and not the quadraphonic version as the basis for this remastering. The legendary recording comes from EMI producers Christopher Bishop and Christopher Parker.
The XRCD24 remastering was done by old master Tohru Kotetsu at the JVC Mastering Studio in Yokohama and he was assisted by Kazuo Kiuchi from Combak. The sound is a mixture of sheer orchestral grandeur with an enormously deep stage performance and an astonishing naturalness in the timbres of the instruments. Violins can sound vicious, and brass players are actually made of metal. At the same time, the recording offers a wide dynamic range and is ideal for lovers of classic EMI sound.
