Jean-Christophe Cholet is one of the most unique French pianists in jazz and improvised music. His classic education does not prevent him from writing a rich and diverse style. Artistic and cultural diversity are always in the foreground. He leads numerous projects in different formations, so his discography counts more than 20 albums.
Matthieu Michel (trumpet, flugelhorn) is also an exceptional artist. With his distinctive style of playing and a special feeling for melodies, he has the ability to immerse the listener in an extraordinary and bewitching musical universe. As a long-time member of the Vienna Art Orchestra, he has traveled to around 40 countries and played on more than 300 albums.
Cholet and Michel met more than 20 years ago through the Vienna Art Orchestra and have met regularly since then, whether privately or on stage. In 1998 her first album "Benji" was released.
At the studio concert, the two bring accordionist Didier Ithursarry, who received a classical education at the Orsay Conservatory, but mixed his music with other art forms such as theater, dance, jazz, improvised music and world music.
A common thread that runs through the program is the traditional music of the Atlantic, from Brittany to the Basque Country, where Didier Ithursarry comes from. This includes different dances and folk styles, for example "Banako", "Zortziko", "Fandango" or "Mutxiko". This connection gives the project the name "Atlantic Whispers", an indication of the subtle power that is inherent in both the ocean and the duo's compositions.
